Pinewood Derby 1/24 and 1/25

Pinewood Derby

Friday January 24th: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm  (All Cars Check-in and Outlaw Race)
Saturday January 25th: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm   (Scout/Sibling Race)
Location: First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall

Start your engines - it's Pinewood Derby season!   Pack 80 will have two races:  the Scout Race and the Outlaw Race.  The Scout Race is for all scouts and will include a Siblings division just like last year.  The Outlaw Race is for anyone (dad, mom, siblings, scouts, etc).

The rules for the scout/sibling race and the outlaw race are attached.  Please follow them accordingly (there are differences).  Any car that does not pass inspection will be disqualified.

Schedule:

Friday January 24th: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm  (All Cars Check-in and Outlaw Race)

  • 6:00 pm Car Check-In begins
  • 6:45 pm Check-in for Outlaw cars ends
  • 7:00 pm Outlaw Race
  • Outlaw Race Awards Presentation
  • 7:45 pm Scout/Sibling car check-in ends

Saturday January 25th: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm   (Scout/Sibling Race)

  • Opening Activity - Vote on your favorite cars (best paint job, fast looking, scout spirit, most original)
  • Opening Flag Ceremony
  • Announcements
  • Main Activity: Scout/Sibling Race
  • Intermission
  • Scout and Siblings Race Awards Presentation
  • Closing Flag Ceremony and Clean up

Award Categories:

  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Fastest Time for the Pack
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Fastest Time for each Den, not including the fastest Pack cars
  • Scouting Spirit (Vote) - for best demonstration of scouting spirit
  • Best Paint Job (Vote) - Be creative, smooth, shiny
  • Fastest Looking (Vote) - Even when it’s not actually racing it just looks fast
  • Most Original (Vote) - For the most different, original concept  
  • Beginners Luck – Fastest first time racer
  • The Most Economical - The car taking the most time to finish
  • DIY Award - Did it Myself
  • Hard Luck Award - Car with most difficult time finishing
  • Pack Leader's Choice Award  
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Fastest Time for the Outlaw Race
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Fastest Time for Siblings

The top 5 finishers in the Pack will proceed to the Stanford District Pinewood Derby Championships. 


Important Things to Know:
  • Please feel free to pack a "neat" snack/dinner for either night of racing
  • If you want to participate in either race, you must bring your car in for inspection and impounding on Friday January 24th @ 6:00PM. No cars will be accepted on Saturday.
  • The Outlaw Race is optional.
  • Each scout will receive a car kit. If you need an extra kit for an outlaw or sibling car, they are available for sale at the Scout Store
  • We will have car clinics for those that wish to get advice and borrow tools.  Dates and locations will be announced separately.

Pumpkin Contest - Monday, Oct. 21

    Buy and carve your pumpkin!
  • The pack will provide lights. We'll use electric lights for safety. 
  • Get a bag of change to vote for your favorites. I recommend two rolls of pennies or nickels. All change will be donated by the pack to UNICEF.
  • Pick a theme for your pumpkin. We'll have awards for Funniest, Scariest, Most Creative, Cub Scout Spirit, Cubmaster's Choice, Peoples Choice, and Heaviest UNICEF donation collection. 
WHAT? Halloween Pack Meeting all dens and welcome new scouts

A night at the museum for your young explorer!
Penguins + Pajamas guest comes face to face with Claude the albino alligator

Explore the exhibits after-hours: Discover the deepest depths of the oceans, travel to the tops of rainforests, and blast off into outer space at your own private planetarium show.

After milk and cookies, roll out your sleeping bag in an exhibit area like the flooded forest tunnel, Philippine Coral Reef, or even face-to-face with Claude the albino alligator!

In the morning, rise-and-shine for breakfast time at the Academy Café—and continue your adventure with complimentary next-day admission to the museum.

Ticket price includes:

    Overnight stay in an exhibit area
    Live animal presentation
    Rainforest access until 8 pm
    Planetarium showings
    Late night snack and early morning breakfast
    Overnight parking in Music Concourse Garage
    Next day admission to the Academy

Admission to Penguins+Pajamas sleepovers begins at 6 pm, and the event ends at 8 am the following day. Penguins+Pajamas is a program for children between the ages of 5 and 17

Popcorn Registration 2019-2020

All scouts who wish to sell popcorn are required to have an account on Trails End. There are several other great changes to the popcorn program this year, and sales tracking will be via an app and online.

A portion of popcorn sales are available as credit from the pack to the scout to fund activities and dues. Please use the Pack 80 popcorn award calculator to find out your awards.

MV Spring Family Parade

It’s time for the 41st Annual Downtown Spring Family Parade! We will be Cruisin’ Mountain View this upcoming Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. This parade WILL go on rain or shine, down Castro Street to Civic Center Plaza and ending at Mercy Street. 

Our line-up number is 34. We will lineup on the corner of Castro and Villa Street (towards Castro Street). Lindsay Vanderbeek will be helping to coordinate. 

Please arrive by 9:30 AM and meet us at the corner of Castro & Villa by 9:45 am. Parade lineup numbers will be posted in chalk on Villa Street and Hope Street. Post-parade celebrations include food, games and entertainment held at Pioneer Park until 1:00 p.m. The Pack has been invited to the Masonic Lodge near Pioneer Park following the parade for a cook-out and celebration of the Lodge's anniversary.

Pack Spring Campout

When: May 3rd - May 5th (Fri. - Sun.)
Where: Mt. Madonna County Park - Arrowhead group campsite
Cost: $50 per family

Fees cover campground and parking, firewood for Sat night campfire and smores. Each den to arrange all their own meals.

Please see the pack campout email for sign ups.
Volunteers are needed to make this event a success. At the pack level we need coordinators for safety, campfire program, and other tasks. The dens will also need volunteers for their own needs. Please sign
up for something. THANKS!

NOTE: BSA Health forms (attached below) are required for each participant.
